There are many ways you can customize Windows: Visual Styles, Docks, Wallpapers, etc. I'll be walking you through how to use and apply these to optimize the look of your computer.
You'll need the following tools:
- TuneUP Utilities
- Extraction program such as WinRAR
[ Step 1: Find a Wallpaper ]
The best place to look is deviantART. Click "Categories> Customization>Wallpaper" Once you've found a wallpaper you like it's time to find a Visual Style.
[ Step 2: Find a Visual Style (or VS for short) ]
Again, the best place to look isdeviantART. When you get to deviantART go to: "Categories> Customization>Skins and Themes>Windows Vista Utilities>Visual Styles" and then select "Popular" and then "All time". Browse through until you find a style thats suits you/matches your wallpaper. Make a new folder on your computer called "Visual styles", remember to create it somewhere you'll remember ( I recommend the "Documents" folder, or the Desktop). Extract the downloaded files to the "Visual Styles" folder using WinRAR.
Before you can use the visual style you'll need TuneUP Utilities. Once you've install TuneUP, open it and select "Continue testing". Now select "TuneUP Styler" and finally "Select a visual style for Windows Vista".
Now to install the theme select "Install visual style from file..." Now go to the Visual Styles folder, open up the theme folder you downloaded from deviantART (there may be different sub folders named "Theme_Callibri" or "Theme Candara" - These are just different font styles for the taskbar, etc.) and select the theme file (.msstyle) and click "Apply Visual Style" and there you have it, a nice theme for Windows!
[ Step 3: Find a dock ]
I find the best dock to use is Rocketdock. However, there are other alternatives such as Objectdock and RK Launcher
[ Step 4: Rainmeter ]
First download Rainmeter. Once you've done this go to Customize.org for Skins. To use themes download and extract them to C:\Program Files\Rainmeter\Skins. Once youve done this right click on the Rainmeter icon in the system tray and go to Configs and then down to the skin you want to use.
And that concludes the tutorial, if you have any problems/think I've missed anything you can contact me via PM or leave a comment below. Bye!
